Both domestic and international students are encouraged to join the Global Experience Living Learning Community (LLC) in Poplar Hall, where they can explore diverse customs, cultures and languages. Members develop a global perspective, participate in cultural events and activities, and engage in opportunities to learn about academic programs and majors focused on diverse languages, study abroad and international affairs.
The Global Experience LLC partners with the Center for International Relations & Cultural Leadership Exchange (CIRCLE) to help students build their Global Husky Experience and make connections both on and beyond campus. Explore CIRCLE’s program calendar and Instagram @uwcircle for more information.
Poplar Hall is near the Ethnic Cultural Center that serves underrepresented students with academic advising, organizational development, personal growth and referrals.
Poplar Hall has an Area Director, a Community Manager and a dedicated Resident Adviser to support students in the Global Experience LLC.
Partner programs of the LLC include CIRCLE Success & Well-being Coaching, CIRCLE of Friends, Unite UW, International Welcome Programs and the Global Leadership Series.
Poplar Hall is next door to Fitness Center West in Elm Hall and near Maple Hall’s Area 01, a community center with a makerspace, sound lab, game pods and content creation studio.
LLC members engage with faculty, staff and cultural leaders who share an interest in the cultural exchange. The community comes together to grow and create through fun and educational activities and events each quarter. These are some of the Global Experience LLC’s past events.
Study Abroad Advisors came to Poplar Hall to share study abroad opportunities. Residents learned what requirements and preparations are needed for a study aboard quarter.
Residents celebrated the Lunar New Year in partnership with UW RSOs such as the Chinese Student Association. Residents learned how to make dumplings and enjoyed a savory treat.
