Humanities Living Learning Community

Explore Humanity Together

The Humanities Living Learning Community (LLC) in Oliver Hall provides a welcoming community for enthusiasts of language, literature, media and cultural studies. Open to all majors, this LLC allows you to explore your passions across the Humanities at UW in your own time. This can look like learning a new language, starring in an RSO-produced student film or taking general education courses focused on Humanities topics you enjoy. Because you'll live alongside students who share similar interests, you'll experience an environment that understands the value of the Humanities: increased global perspective, sharpened critical thinking skills and the ability to deeply question the world around you.

Partnerships

The Humanities LLC partners with The Humanities Academic Services (HAS) team, who provide advising sessions to explore courses, careers, funding opportunities and research.

Convenient for Humanities Students

Oliver Hall is minutes away from the Odegaard Writing & Research Center, Humanities Librarians, CLUE writing center and the HAS main office in Padelford Hall.

Res Life Staff in the Building

Oliver Hall has a Resident Director, an Assistant Resident Director and two RAs dedicated to the Humanities LLC floor that are available to support students.

Amenities

Oliver Hall is located near The MILL and The 8, makerspaces where residents can use 3-D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, a kiln, and wood and metal shop equipment for course projects or hobbies.

Programming

LLC members engage with residents, Res Life staff, Humanities staff and faculty, and alumni who share an interest in Humanities. In addition to strong community relationships, students in this LLC will receive specialized tips to embed the Humanities into their UW experience. These include course recommendations, major and minor information, and Humanities RSO meet and greets.   Residents will also have opportunities to meet with Humanities advisers and faculty to learn how connecting to this division will add to their academic and professional strengths, regardless of their planned degree. Consider this LLC as a way to explore the Humanities as an “and” not an “or” during your time at UW.

Here are some examples of events the Humanities LLC may hold to supplement your exploration:
