Fitness Center West

Fitness Center West, FCW, located in Elm Hall, is a large fitness facility that also houses our campus Health and Wellness office. This facility offers cardio equipment, free weights and strength equipment. Group fitness classes are available in the two large fitness studios.

  • This facility is open to HFS residents and residential conference guests only.
  • Registration is now open for Autumn 2019 classes.

Fitness Center West group fitness classes

There are a few ways to register for a class:

For students:

  • Summer quarter unlimited class passes are available for purchase with a credit card on our website. For $40/quarter you may attend as many FCW classes as you’d like. If you plan to attend one or more classes per week, this is the best option for you!
  • Quarterly unlimited class passes are available for purchase with a credit card on our website. For $80/quarter you may attend as many FCW classes as you’d like. If you plan to attend two or more classes per week, this is the best option for you!
  • Individual classes may be purchased online with a credit card for $6 per class.
  • If you’d like to pay using your Husky Card, you may register and pay at the FCW reception desk prior to the start of the class. 

For conference guests:

  • Individual classes may be purchased in person prior to the start of class with a credit card for $6.
  • Long-term conference guests are also eligible to purchase a summer quarter unlimited class pass for $40/quarter at the FCW desk.

Fall quarter class offerings

Ashtanga Yoga
Tuesday at 5:00 pm
Instructor: Miloni Desai

The body affects the mind and the mind also affects the body. In this class we teach our students to balance body and mind with the help of Ashtanga Yoga Asanas, and the cultivation of a positive outlook. A calm, steady and focused mind—a quality often overlooked by those who treat yoga as mere physical exercise—is a vital tool to help glide smoothly over the ups and downs of life. In fact, it is this that the yogi truly seeks and asanas are only a means to this end.

Barre 
Monday at 4:00pm

Barre is a fusion of yoga, Pilates, strength training, and ballet. A full-body, low-impact workout that uses isometric movements to target specific muscle groups. Barre will help improve your posture, strength, balance, and flexibility.

Boot Camp
Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 am
Instructor: Manny Dunham

Boot camp is circuit training mixed in with HITT style training. Most of the movements performed will be a mix of metabolic training (Fast movements with shorter rest periods to raise the metabolism process) and core movements focusing on the stabilizing muscles of the body. The workouts are very intense, but geared for everyone, with modifications for every movement which caters to the advanced, average, and the beginner stage, as well.

Flexibility
Monday at 6:00pm
Instructor: Shannon Slevin

Flexibility is a great class for people who want to stretch out sore muscles from weight training or those who want to become more flexible. Can’t touch your toes? Close to getting your splits but not quite there yet? No problem! This class is for you! Flexibility is something everyone should work on as a part of a well rounded fitness routine. Gain stability and strength as you increase your range of motion and mobility in this safely structured environment.

HIGH Fitness
Wednesday and Friday at 5:00pm
Instructor: Christine Fleming

HIGH Fitness is choreographed interval training with cardio peaks and toning tracks set to music you know and love. High and low impact options provided throughout class.

Kickboxing
Tuesday and Thursday 7:00am
Instructor: Sarah Nishikawa

The Fitness Center West Kickboxing program is fun and energized class designed to provide participants with a fast-paced cardio workout that incorporates moderate impact techniques. This class provides new experiences and opportunities for increasing cardio and strength stamina, learning basic weight lifting and HIIT workouts, in addition to learning basic kickboxing skills with heavy boxing bags combined with shadow cardio kickboxing. Open to all levels.

Power Yoga
Monday at 5:00pm

Tuesday at 6:00 pm

In this class we master and take control of our physical body using powerful asanas, namaskars and vinyasa techniques. We focus on building stamina and follow the principles of hatha yoga. This is also great for someone looking to get a good workout in an hour.

Upper Body + Core
Wednesday at 4:00pm
Instructor: Katelyn Page

Each exercises will have a focus on the arms, chest, shoulders, or back, as well as the upper, mid, lower, or obliques through four sets of ten exercises designed to hit each muscle of your upper body + core. This is a perfect compliment to a barre class or leg day. You’re guaranteed to feel it the next day.

Zumba
Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 pm
Instructor: Claire Yuan

Zumba is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance, giving you a great full body workout without even realizing it. It is a great way to stay active while doing something that is easy to enjoy.

Reserve a Fitness Center West studio

  • At least half of your group must be HFS residential students. All patrons in your reservation must sign in through the card-swipe system.
  • You may reserve a studio up to three times per quarter.
  • You may reserve a studio for up to two hours at a time.
  • Fitness Center West classes have priority for studio usage. You may check the class schedule on each studio door.‚Äč
