Cancellation
The following terms apply to all application types except family housing. Cancellation schedules for each application type follow.
- You may cancel your housing application before you move in on your MyHFS Homepage.
- A cancellation charge will be assessed as shown in the table relevant to your application type below.
- If you cancel your initial housing application, reapply, and cancel again, you will be assessed cancellation based on the latest cancellation date.
- You will not be assessed a cancellation charge if you submit your cancellation notice within one week of submitting your housing application and have not yet been assigned to a room; if you formally decline your offer of admission to the University; if your offer of admission to the University is rescinded by the University; or if you have received military orders for entry into the service, a permanent change of station or deployment for at least 90 days. You must provide HFS with copies of any such military orders at hfsinfo@uw.edu.
- If you do not submit your cancellation notice and do not check in to your room by 12 noon on the second day of University instruction or, if assigned after the quarter begins, by your assigned check-in date: HFS will cancel your application and assignment; you will be charged a $500 early termination charge; and you will be responsible for paying full room charges for the full agreement period.
- If you cancel your application and do not have a pending housing application or assignment for a future term, your deposit will be used to pay for any balance due on your account.
- If your balance due exceeds the amount of your Deposit, you must pay the remaining balance immediately.
- HFS will refund any remainder of your deposit by mail. If the refund is returned to HFS for any reason, the money will be held for one year by HFS before remittance to the Washington State Department of Revenue.
Deferment
The following terms apply to all application types except family housing.
- You may defer your application before you move in by emailing hfsinfo@uw.edu.
- You will not be subject to cancellation charges if you are assigned and check in for a future quarter.
- You will be subject to cancellation charges for your original application quarter if you are assigned and do not check in for a future quarter.
For cancellation charges related to 2020–21 housing applications, please refer to the agreement for that housing type/period.

Early Fall Start
If you submit your cancellation notice for Early Fall Start only, the applicable cancellation charge listed in the table below will be applied to your housing account. If you submit a cancellation notice for Early Fall Start and the 2021–22 agreement period on the same day, you will be charged the cancellation charge shown in the table below, or the 2021–22 agreement period cancellation charge, whichever is greater based on the submission date. If you submit your cancellation notice for Early Fall Start and the 2021–22 agreement period on different days, you will be subject to cancellation charges for both Early Fall Start and the 2021–22 agreement period.

Interim
If you submit your cancellation notice for interim only, the applicable cancellation charge listed in the table below will be applied to your housing account. If you submit a cancellation notice for interim and the 2021–22 agreement period on the same day, you will be charged the cancellation charge shown in the table below, or the 2021–22 agreement period cancellation charge, whichever is greater based on the submission date. If you submit your cancellation notice for interim and the 2021–22 agreement period on different days, you will be subject to cancellation charges for both interim and the 2021–22 agreement period.

Family housing
You may cancel your housing application at no charge before you have signed your agreement. If you cancel your housing assignment after you have signed your agreement, you will be assessed a $500 cancellation charge.
