Parents and Families

UW student and her parents outside Local Point

We are dedicated to supporting your student’s success and ensuring that the whole family can participate in a truly remarkable Husky Home experience.

We know that behind every Husky, there may be a wide variety of loved ones, mentors and supporters who helped them get where they are. We mean “family” in the broadest sense, knowing that a student’s circle of role models might go beyond the traditional definition. If you’ve helped guide, care for and love a UW student, you are part of the UW family.

Family programs

The UW hosts parent and family programs that HFS participates in. Consider attending UW Parent and Family Weekend. Spend quality time together on campus and discover what the Husky Experience is all about.

UW parent and family guide

Your involvement in your student’s life doesn’t end when college begins. UW Parent & Family Programs (PFP) is here to help you stay connected with your Husky and support your family’s UW experience. The UW Parent and Family Guide is a great resource.

Student health and wellness

College is full of excitement, opportunities and also challenges. Husky Health & Wellbeing is the website for all UW-Seattle health services. Explore the site to learn about and to access the many health and wellness resources available to your student.

Privacy and safety

Resident safety is one of the UW’s highest priorities. Our safety policy was developed in conjunction with UW regulations and Washington State statutes regarding student privacy. HFS will not, under any circumstances, release room numbers or telephone numbers to any unauthorized person including friends, parents and relatives. Although this policy may seem inconvenient at times, it provides residents protection and a secure living environment within the UW. We encourage students to make sure their families and friends have their address, as well as their room and telephone numbers.

Parent notification and student privacy

Once a student turns 18, or attends school beyond secondary school, the rights of access to the student’s records transfer to the student. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) before you apply for housing.

Authorize parents to make payments

Students have the option to authorize their parents or another third party to pay their housing bills. Housing and dining payments are separate from tuition payments. More information about making housing and dining payments for your student can be found in our Residential Financial Information pdf.

If your student has authorized you to have access to their account information, you can view your student's account balance and pay on their behalf. Go to the Guest Portal log in page to get started.

Know in advance when payments are due

Bookmark our dates and deadlines calendar page.

Your student's address

Residence hall and apartment addresses can be found on each building's webpage. Simply type the building name into the search field.

Student jobs at HFS

Our Desk Services, UW Dining and Residential Life units have job opportunities for students throughout campus. Students are paid an hourly wage and receive valuable training and experience. Students can apply throughout the year.

Note: We have temporarily stopped accepting applications for student employment.
