A community-focused learning space featuring a high- and low-tech makerspace called The Dabble Lab, as well as a variety of other spaces including the Sound Lab, Gamepods and new Content Creation Studio. Unlock your creativity and forge connections with like-minded peers as you dive into engaging workshops throughout the academic year, transforming ideas into reality together. You can also enjoy the space playing ping pong, pool, using the game consoles and more.

*User fees are as follows: $15/Day Pass, $25/Quarterly Membership (academic year only), $40/Summer Membership and Conference Guest membership to Area 01 Dabble Lab, Sound Lab and Image Lab. These fees are non-refundable.
*For details regarding Conference Guests, please visit the Guest Housing page. While staying in UW guest housing, Conference Guests receive complimentary free access to Area 01 Game Lab and optional additional user fee membership for Dabble Lab, Sound Lab, and Image Lab. Please note that Conference Guests may not bring guests who are unaffiliated with UW, nor are they permitted to purchase memberships or passes on their behalf.
The Labs
Dabble Lab
A high- and low-tech makerspace for collaborative or solo idea development and creative projects.
Sound Lab
A studio and practice space with musical instruments and recording equipment for musicians of all types and styles.
Image Lab
A video production and editing studio suitable for all types of visual arts, including videography and photography.
Game Lab
A gaming center with console and PC games, space for competitive video gaming and an area for old-school games.
Before visiting the Dabble Lab
After you have completed the safety training quiz, you will be eligible to register for workshops and classes and reserve work time in the Dabble Lab. The user agreement and safety training quiz must be completed annually. We require this training to ensure that you can use the maker space safely.

Meet the team
Patrick Heneghan
Assistant Director

Patrick has worked at the UW since 2017 and has served in various roles within HFS. Patrick earned his BA in Psychology with a minor in English and Film studies, from Western Washington University and his M.Ed in Student Affairs Administrations from Western Washington University. Patrick oversees the operations of all Perks & Recreation spaces.

Kory has worked at UW since 2021, in a dual role with the College of Engineering and HFS. Kory teaches classes and workshops and oversees the repair and upkeep of equipment in The 8.
