How it works
Frost Bite is run entirely by student volunteers! This allows our low-price, non-profit business model to serve the campus community. All funds go directly back into running the business and improving the space!
Frost Bite isn't a transactional ice cream shop—it's a place for students to come hang out with their peers, play games and find community (all while enjoying delicious ice cream).
Separate from UW Dining, Frost Bite is in the hands of students. Our volunteers consider themselves to be members of a club rather than employees. Learn more about the benefits of joining the Frost Bite team below!

Frost Bite is a fun, supportive place to gain valuable work experience. Volunteer responsibilities include opening, closing, scooping ice cream, serving customers and operating the register. In addition, volunteers are encouraged to share ideas for ways to make Frost Bite an even better experience for students.
Frost Bite is the one and only student-operated ice cream shop on campus! It is located in Spratlen Hall (formerly Madrona Hall) Learning Resource Center (LRC) and open daily from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
We sell ice cream at a very low cost and provide a space for UW students to gather, socialize and hang out.
Frost Bite is operated by Residential Life department in Housing and Food Services. Frost Bite is one of the five locations operated by the Perks & Recreation/Amenities Team on UW Seattle Campus.
By volunteering, you will learn the ins and outs of running and operating a small business.
This is a great opportunity to get involved and find community—you'll work alongside other volunteers to serve your fellow UW students!
Whether you’re interested in just scooping ice cream and meeting other students on campus, or helping run the operational side of the shop, there’s a place on the team for you!
Volunteers’ responsibilities include opening, scooping ice cream, serving customers, operating the POS system (register), and closing.
Volunteers will work just a few hours each week to serve ice cream at the shop. Shifts will be 5:45 p.m.–9:15 p.m. (15-minute window before and after hours for opening and closing). Depending on the number of volunteers onboard, we will aim for a shift a week with rotating weeks off.
You will also have the opportunity to engage in leadership roles! You could be involved in operational tasks such as events planning, marketing, inventory and daily operations.
We are run entirely by students, so we know how to be flexible with student schedules. We'll work to create a consistent schedule that works for you.
You get free ice cream! Volunteers can help themselves to free ice cream after their volunteer shift and get 50% discounts off shift.
You will gain valuable work experience in a low-stakes environment.
You will get free swag—T-shirt, stickers and more!
You will be able to get your Food Handlers Permit for free.
You will be part of a tradition on campus!
