10 Fun Things to do at the University of Washington

Now that the sun is shining in Seattle, it is a great time to get out and explore the beautiful University of Washington campus. With historic buildings, spectacular views, and luscious green spaces, UW is a haven for adventure. Here is a list of the top 10 things to do at the University of Washington.

Bowl at the HUB
Head downstairs at the Husky Union Building (HUB) for a round of bowling with friends. The 12-lane bowling alley is perfect for group events or a laid-back afternoon with friends. If you get hungry, head over to the Husky Den for a delicious meal. With a variety of cuisines, there is something for everyone!

Rent a canoe from the WAC
The Waterfront Activities Center (WAC) offers canoe and kayak rentals where you can paddle through Union Bay Natural Area and get a unique waterside view of campus. Located on the south side of Husky Stadium, the WAC provides an escape into nature with common sightings of bald eagles and osprey. Organize a group outing or paddle solo for a perfect day out on the water.

Visit the Burke Museum and Henry Art Gallery
From Northwest natural history in the Burke Musuem to contemporary art in the Henry Art Gallery, these two museums on campus offer everything from dinosaur fossils to thought-provoking exhibitions. Both museums are located along 15th Ave. NE and are free for UW community members.

Attend events
If you are an HFS resident, there are plenty of fun events hosted by the Residential Programming Board (RPB) and Residence Education Programmers (RPB). Attending these events is a great way to make friends, find new hobbies and take a well-deserved break from studying. Activities include movie nights, fitness classes, crafting, cooking classes, and more. Learn a new skill
HFS offers workshops and classes at each of the three makerspaces – Area 01, The Mill, and The 8 – as well as fitness classes at Fitness Center West. From 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Embroidery, and Photography to Hip Hop and Yoga, there truly is something for everyone. Check out the extensive list of classes and equipment reservation here.

Enjoy Denny Field
Whenever the sun is out, you can expect Denny Field to be packed with students playing Spikeball, catch, or even studying. Nestled within the North Campus residence halls, the turf field is the perfect escape to the outdoors. Grab your food to go from Center Table or Pagliacci for a nice picnic on the field. Stroll through the quad
As the most iconic spot on campus, the Quad is famous for its cherry blossoms each spring. Even when the petals aren’t falling, it’s a beautiful place to soak in the scenery and snap a few photos under the towering trees. Bring your book or people-watch on the shady benches along the perimeter of the grass.

Picnic on Parrington Lawn
Grab some friends, grab lunch from favorite campus cafe, and enjoy one of the sunniest spots on campus. With views of historic Parrington Hall and easy access to coffee shops nearby along the Ave, Parrington Lawn is a go-to spot for a mid-day break.

Visit the Suzzallo Reading Room
Known as the "Harry Potter room," Suzzallo Reading Room feels like stepping into Hogwarts castle. With its vaulted ceilings and stained-glass windows, it’s the perfect quiet place to study, sip your Starbucks coffee, or simply admire the architecture.
