Mission Statement

The Engineering Living Learning Community (LLC) is dedicated to fostering a dynamic and inclusive residential environment where aspiring engineers can thrive academically, socially, and professionally. Through staff, continuing engineering students, alumni, and faculty engagement, the LLC empowers students to explore engineering disciplines and build a strong sense of community.

Student Learning Outcomes

As a result of living in the engineering LLC, students will be able to

  • Explore various engineering disciplines and career pathways through faculty interaction, industry visits, and alumni panels.

  • Develop professional skills such as resume writing, networking, and effective communication tailored to engineering careers.

  • Collaborate effectively in group settings, including study groups and community programming.

  • Demonstrate increased self-efficacy in navigating engineering pathways.

McCarty Hall has two Resident Directors, one Assistant Resident Director, and 11 RAs specifically for the Engineering LLC.

LLC members engage with staff and residents who share an engineering interest and participate in events with College of Engineering staff and faculty, business leaders and alumni.

The Mill
Innovation in your home

Build a prototype for class at The McCarty Innovation and Learning Lab (The MILL) makerspace or take a short walk to McMahon Hall to use state-of-the-art metal and wood shop equipment.

Programming

In partnership with the UW College of Engineering, LLC members engage with staff and residents who share an interest in engineering, participate in activities and events with UW College of Engineering staff and faculty, business leaders and alumni, and develop their leadership skills in their community. Area01 Dabble Lab Engineering Showdown
Engineering Showdown: Building Bridges and Bonds

Teams design and construct a bridge, competing for strength and creativity. Participants learn about basic bridge structures followed by a weight test to see which design could hold the most weight. Prizes are awarded to the winning team.

Areas of Impact Sip & Chat events

Industry professionals, faculty, and upper division students gather with residents to chat over snacks and beverages about their work connected to their engineering area of impact.

Faculty Dinners

A faculty member joins a small group of residents on the Engineering LLC at an on-campus dining location for conversation over dinner. 

Quarterly Quick Questions Advising for Engineering Undeclared Students

Professional advising staff advise in McCarty Hall to prepare students for course registration.

Interested in living in the Engineering LLC? Select the Engineering LLC on your Housing Application when applying for housing. First-year directly admitted students and upperclassmen admitted into the College of Engineering have priority for this LLC.
