How to Spend Spring Break on Campus

March 6, 2025 by Paige Stanley

Spring Break at the UW marks the break in between finals week of Winter Quarter and Week 1 of Spring Quarter. This year, it falls from Saturday, March 22 through Sunday, March 30.

While many students take this week off of school to travel with their friends or visit family, other students remain on campus. If you choose to stay on campus for Spring Break, here is a list of activities to help you relax and rejuvenate for Spring Quarter:

  • Stay active at Fitness Center West or the IMA

Boost your mood and self-confidence by starting a workout routine at the UW Intramural Activities Building (IMA). It can be difficult for students to make time to be active while managing their busy class schedules, but Spring Break is a great time to start a new workout routine for the upcoming quarter.

Fitness Center West is closed during Spring Break to refresh equipment or perform minor maintenance, meaning this is a great time to try out some alternative exercise. The IMA has plenty of traditional gym equipment as well as a newly renovated pool, golf driving range, sand volleyball courts, pickleball/tennis courts, turf fields, and more!

Spring Break Hours:

Intramural activities building (IMA) operation hours: 11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. every day

IMA pool operation hours: 11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. every day

Golf range operation hours: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday - Sunday

  • Do some spring cleaning

Spring Break is a great time to reset before heading into Spring Quarter. Spend some time cleaning out your closet, swapping out your room decor, and deep cleaning surfaces in your room. In addition to physical cleaning, declutter your academic life by organizing a planner for your spring schedule, tidying your desk space, and cleaning up your computer files. This reset will prepare you to start your Spring Quarter on the right foot!

  • Grab a Starbucks coffee and visit the cherry blossoms in the Quad

The famous cherry blossom trees in the quad usually bloom from late March through April. This year, Spring Break falls right at the beginning of the bloom season. Stop by Suzzallo Library from Monday, March 24–Friday, March 28 from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. to grab a drink, then head to the quad! Avoid the crowds of students before school returns and take a stroll through the grass to see the beautiful blossoms.

  • Strengthen your cooking skills

With fewer residents sharing the communal kitchens over break, it is the perfect time to put your chef skills to the test. Go grocery shopping at the District Market to gather ingredients for a recipe you have been wanting to try. Here are some recipes perfect for Spring.

  • Visit a campus museum

Both the Burke Museum and the Henry Art Gallery stay open through Winter Break! Explore dinosaur fossils at the Burke Museum or contemporary art from around the world at the Henry. Both museums offer free admission for UW students and are a great way to spend your day!

  • Head to the first College Night of the Mariner’s 2025 season

The Seattle Mariners host college night games about twice per month throughout the season, offering student tickets for as low as $10. The first college night game falls on Friday, March 28 against the Oakland Athletics. Gather your friends in town and head down to T-Mobile Park on the light rail for a night at the ballpark!

  • Visit a Seattle weekend market

As the weather gets warmer, the Seattle weekend market scene ramps up. Travel to your favorite Seattle neighborhood for fresh produce, baked goods, vintage finds, and more. Here are all the Seattle weekend markets open during Spring Break
