Welcome to The MILL, a vibrant hands-on workspace where the UW community thrives on imagination, discovery and innovation! Located in McCarty Hall, this creative haven is open to all UW students, offering access to an array of tools, including 3-D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, a kiln and more. The MILL makerspace is the result of a programmatic and monetary investment by UW Housing & Food Services, supported by the UW College of Engineering.
"I love the DIY space that the MILL offers, both the tools and the space to work on projects is something I value immensely."
—Sophomore, Hansee Hall

With varying degrees of support, provided by two full-time staff members, university faculty and trained student staff, users of The MILL will get help and knowledge transfer from entry-level all the way to professional and research level. Workshops and trainings are available throughout the year.
The UW College of Engineering is a partner of The MILL, utilizing the space for several course offerings and for student project development and creation. The university’s Student Technology Fund helps purchase equipment for The MILL and creates access for the entire UW student community.
The MILL offers outstanding opportunities for academic classes, workshops and events. Partnering with The MILL helps bring more engagement with UW students to your department or organization by connecting with them where they live. If you would like to work with us to schedule an event, class, tour, project or anything else, please submit your request via our Perks & Rec Request form, or email Alyssa Hall for more information.
Creative events and gatherings: Whatever you dream you can do. The 4200 sq. ft. space can be configured for anything from large team-building events to small group project work.
Academic and learning partnerships: Supporting the academic mission of the UW is a vital part of our mission. We are interested in partnership possibilities with campus academic departments and colleges that can encompass a large range of student learning possibilities.
Registered Student Organization: The MILL may be the perfect space for your RSO’s next event. Our diverse resources combined with our flexible and fun spaces provide your organization with the spark it needs for dynamic membership engagement. RSOs may request reservations in The MILL classroom B52 for an hourly fee. Room reservations are dependent on room availability.
