maker summit 2023

Summit FAQ

WHEN IS MY PROJECT DUE?

All projects are due by Monday April 3, at 8:00am

WILL LATE ENTRIES BE ACCEPTED?

No, all projects must be submitted by April 3 to ensure that we have enough time to follow up with all of our participants.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE AWARDS CEREMONY ON April 15?

We require all participants who submitted a project to attend the awards ceremony to support your fellow makers and the community, and to be eligible to win a 1st or 2nd place prize. You must also be present at the ceremony in order to be eligible to win the $500 raffle prize. If you cannot attend the ceremony for whatever reason, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing hfsperks@uw.edu.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE PROJECT SHOWCASE IF I SUBMITTED A PROJECT?

Participants who have submitted a project are highly encouraged to attend the Project Showcase. It is not required for you to be present at the Project Showcase in order for your project to be judged.

When can I pick up my project?

Please pick up your project after the Project Showcase ends at 6 pm. Projects not picked up by the 6 pm deadline will be discarded.

WHAT IS A GIZMO?

Generally, gizmos either perform a task or are used to complete a specific job. Gizmos can move, fly, crawl, sing, etc. We like to keep this loosely defined as it encourages some unique project submissions.

CAN I ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS?

Of course! No need to submit a project in order to attend. Just stop by and check out what the UW maker community is creating. A full schedule of events will be published on our registration website in late March. In the meantime, please feel free to sign up for any of our weekly workshops at reg.hfs.uw.edu.

CAN I BRING PEOPLE OUTSIDE UW TO ATTEND THE MAKER SUMMIT?

All guests are welcome to attend the Art Walk & Film Festival, Project Showcase, and the Open Mic Nite. All guests are also welcome to tour our spaces at The 8 and The MILL during our workshop and demonstration sessions.

ARE THE WORKSHOPS, DEMOS AND EVENTS FREE?

Some workshops require a small fee to participate. However, the Art Walk & Film Festival, Project Showcase, and Open Mic Nite are free to attend. The Reception & Awards Ceremony is free for those who submitted a project.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP or DEMO?
