6 Amenities Available to You as a UW Resident

UW Residence Halls are not just a place to lay your head, they are home to amenity spaces built to enhance your #HuskyHome experience! Check out these 6 spaces below: 

1. The Mill  

Located in McCarty Hall, The MILL, is a vibrant makerspace cultivating imagination, discovery, and innovation! Open to all UW students, join roommates and classmates alike to collaborate on projects using the variety of tools, including 3-D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, a kiln, and more. The MILL offers classes and hands-on support from full-time and student staff members. Make sure to complete the Training Quiz and sign the User Agreement before visiting. 

 

2. The Learning Resource Center 

Conveniently situated in Madrona Hall, the LRC is a great place to quietly study or reserve a room to study with a big group. There are lecture halls and smaller offices depending on your groups needs. The LRC also plays host to a variety of RCSA and HFS residential events and leadership meetings. 

 

3. Frost Bite 

 

Located in Madrona Hall, Frost Bite is a volunteer student-managed ice cream shop with large scoops for as little as $1.50. Hours and opening vary quarter to quarter so make sure to check out their Instagram before you go. In addition, payment is only taken through Husky Card! 

 

4. The 8 

Located in McMahon Hall, The 8 is a multi-use community center. With plenty of tables to study, games like pool and ping-pong, and professional grade equipment, there really is something for everyone. The makerspace features a cutting-edge metal shop and wood shop run by professionals. Home to many RSOs, The 8 could be the home of your next big project! Open until midnight daily, all UW students have acess. Make sure to complete the Training Quiz and sign the User Agreement before visiting the makerspace. 

 

5. Fitness Center West 

HFS residents have access to their very own private gym located on West Campus! Fitness Center West in Elm Hall houses cardio and strength equipment, free weights, and a variety of instructor-led classes hosted in their 2 studios. Sign up for Zumba, Yoga, and HIIT and more through the Perks and Rec website

 

6. Area 01 

Like North Campus, West Campus also has a makerspace: Area 01! Located in Maple Hall, Area 01 is a community-focused learning space featuring a high and low tech makerspace called The Dabble Lab. In addition, there are other spaces including the Sound, Image, and Game Labs. Visiting Area 01 is a great way to meet like-minded peers and collaborate on your passions. Make sure to complete the Training Quiz and sign the User Agreement before visiting the makerspace.
