Whether you are looking for a networking opportunity, a group of friends, or a new hobby, there are plenty of ways to get involved on campus to meet any and all of your needs. Check out this list of ways to find your niche at the UW.
1. Search the RSO List
The University of Washington has over 1,000 Registered Student Organizations (RSO). From climate justice groups, major specific clubs, religious affiliations, hobby clubs, there truly is something for everyone. Any club you could possibly imagine is most likely listed in the RSO Directory. Find one that interests you and contact them about joining!
2. Check the Posters in Your Res Hall
Many RSOs pin up posters in Residence Halls to advertise their club or let students know of upcoming events. Check out these posters frequently to find something that interests you. Even if you do not have space in your schedule to join an RSO, there may be events that catch your eye such as volunteer opportunities, entertainment shows, or workshops.
3. Attend RPB Events
The Residential Programming Board (RPB) hosts free events each quarter to build an inclusive community among residents. These events are a great way to take a break from studying, meet new people, and have fun. The events include activities like potting plants, game nights, and visiting places around Seattle such as the Folk-Life Festival. Take advantage of your benefits as an on-campus resident by taking part in these fun offerings!
4. Join a Multicultural Group
Celebrate your heritage and learn more about your culture by joining a multicultural group. Find students from similar backgrounds to create a tight-knit community of people who share similar upbringings and experiences. These groups are also listed in the RSO Directory.
5. Ask Your Friends
A great way to find out how to get involved on campus is through word of mouth. Ask what your friends and your peers in your classes are involved in. Chances are you will be interested in something similar to them! It is always nice to go with a friend of see a familiar face when joining a new community.
6. Check Out HFS Jobs
Maybe you are looking for a way to make money on campus. HFS offers tons of jobs each quarter that are a great way to make new friends, gain new skills, and develop your resume.
